Twinsburg Garden Club Monthly Programs & Activities for 2017

February 9, 2017 – Evona and Kris Gaughan from Bee Dancin’ will speak onHoneybee Decline and the Movement to Save Them.”  They will discuss how these pollinators of most of our food supply are dying and what we can do to help save honeybees and pollinators.  We will have the opportunity to sample wildflower pollen and a beeswax base healing cream

March 9, 2017 – Mark Destino, House Manager at The Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland, will give an overview of the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland – its mission, core values and its unique position in the Ronald McDonald community.  He will talk about how the gardens at RMH are not only a place of solace for the families who live there but a resource for the greater Cleveland community.

April 6, 2017 (Note first week of the month) – Linda Coleman, owner of Olive My Heart, will discuss the health benefits and uses of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar products.  She will share with us how the store is the fulfillment of her personal ambition to offer superb and healthy products at a unique and inviting location.

May 11, 2017 – Judy Semroc, author, photographer and naturalist for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will present a program on Damselflies and Dragonflies.

June 8, 2017 – Becky Donaldson is a Mentor Marsh Naturalist working for the Natural Areas Division of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will speak  about the Mentor Marsh Restoration.  She will familiarize us with invasive plants that are causing problems with our native plants and animals and explain how these invasive plants can be managed.  She will also give us an overview of the Mentor Marsh and an update on the fight to knock back invasive phragmites and restore native plants to Mentor Marsh.

July 13, 2017 – Kristina Arthur is the horticulturist for Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.  She will discuss the positive effects that interacting with nature has on the lives of patients and caregivers at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.  She will provide a brief overview of horticultural therapy and the benefits of it being used in a medical setting.

August 10, 2017 – Member’s Annual Picnic and Auction.

September 14, 2017 – Sandy Apidone of Countryside Florists will guide us through the creation of a hands on project.

October 12, 2017 – A Power Point presentation will be given by Kristen Beason highlighting the 2017 weekly residents’  gardens and the Garden of the Year Award will be presented.

November 16 , 2017 (Note third week) –  This is our annual hands on project assembling greenery into Christmas swags for use around the City of Twinsburg during the Christmas season.  Note:  This meeting will be held at the Twinsburg Community Center, 10260 Ravenna Rd.

December 14, 2017 – Members only Christmas Party and installation of new officers.
